Shared Living for Adults with Developmental Disabilities
Since our founding...
28 Years
Leander House, founded in 1996, originally joined an established community of six lifesharing homes serving adult Individuals with developmental disabilities in the Southern Berkshires. The lifesharing community has grown significantly since those early years. Today, in the southern Berkshires, there are a myriad of residential and programmatic resources for these Individuals.
22 Individuals
Throughout the years, Leander House has served 22 Individuals with developmental disabilities, all of whom have contributed to the growth and success of Leander House, enriched the lives of many, and have become part of our history and story. Two Individuals who currently live at Leander House have been in our community since our inception, while another two Individuals have been with us for 20+ years.
130+ Volunteers
To date, we have welcomed over 130 volunteers from around the world. Many of the volunteers are young people who choose to do a gap year before heading off to college, while others join us after completing their college degree or even after retiring from their career. All bring their fresh energy, good will, and cultural traditions, offering us the invaluable opportunity of broadening our world-wide knowledge and connections.
- "Leander House is one of the most precious places on this planet. Over the last 16 years, it has become one of my absolute favorite happy places. A beautiful home, filled with loving and caring people. A home filled with little adventures, laughter and joy. I feel blessed that I was able to find such a treasure on my path through life. I can only highly recommend Leander House."

"I have been working with Leander House for over 3 decades. The professionalism, attention to detail and care given to every resident is truly excellent. The house and grounds are in excellent condition, the food is healthy and delicious, and most importantly the care is beyond comparison. I highly recommend Leander House!!"Scott A.
"Leander House was a game changer for my brother that moved him from 'existence' to a life of 'purpose, potential and joy.' Jennie Reins has coded a model where her people engage with the 'person' not their role ...with passion, competence and warmth. You will see it in your loved one. They are the ultimate review. It is a gift of relief and happiness that draws me in."Mimi B.
- "Michael Platt, my brother with Down syndrome, lived and worked at Leander House from 2001 to 2018. These last seventeen years of his life were his happiest and most rewarding. Here, at Leander House, he found a family after our father and mother were too advanced in years to take care of him..."

"I’m the parent of someone with developmental disabilities, have served on the boards of Camphill Soltane and The Four Winds Community, and have produced video documentaries for numerous Lifesharing communities. I’ve been close to the people living and working at Leander House since it’s inception. And I can safely say that the life and lifestyle they provide for people with developmental disabilities is rich and rewarding, filled with dignity, and purpose..."Gary G.
