Leander House enjoys being part of a larger community of other Lifesharing homes located in and around Great Barrington. On a daily basis we see friends at a class, around the dinner table in the evening or at a potluck or other commonly shared event.

Our day program is individualized to foster and support academic, vocational, social and life skills components, taking into consideration the interests, needs and capacities of each individual. Activities may include part-time work in the greater community, academic and artistic classes, social events, farm work, fitness or therapeutic activities such as massage, therapeutic horseback riding, therapeutic movement or painting.

If not in a class, at work, in a workshop or other program activity, we may be tidying up around the house, cleaning our rooms or on an outing. We strive to go hiking, walking, canoeing or swimming at least weekly. Our membership at the local fitness center allows us regular access to a pool, basketball court and workout room. We often join friends for bowling or a potluck. We go to cultural events such as museums, plays, concerts or movies, all of which are plentiful in the Berkshires. In the summer we spend a week camping by the seaside, sleeping in tents, cooking out, lounging on the beach, riding bikes, playing ball and games or listening to a story by the lantern in the evening.
